Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to charge at the Roam Hub?

It costs KES 1.5 for every percentage added on to the battery. A top-up charge of upto 40% would cost KES 60 and a full charge of up to 100% would cost KES 150.

For battery rental, it costs KES 10 upfront and KES10 every hour after that. The maximum rental period is 48hrs. If a rider exceeds 48 hours and the battery is not returned, they will be temporarily banned from accessing the rental service for the same duration they exceeded.

What range will a fully charged battery give me?

Several factors will impact the range on your electric motorcycle. Steep climbs, driving into wind, weight, and tire inflation will all impact range. However, ideally on the Roam Air a fully charge battery will give you a range of 75km.

What is electric motorcycle after-sales servicing?

Maintaining your electric motorcycle vs a combustion engine motorcycle is very different. There are some important contrasts that you should know. For example, no oil or oil filter changes, no need for coolant or other fluids, no spark plugs or air filters. This means that the problems you’re used to having with a motorcycle all go out the window.

What maintenance is needed on an electric motorcycle?

The primary areas of focus for electric motorcycle servicing are:

  • Chain lubrication and cleaning
  • Brakes and brake fluid
  • Tyre maintenance
  • Lights and turn signals
  • Battery
  • Running diagnostic errors on the Roam Air’s software
Where can I install the solar modules?

Solar modules can be installed anywhere. Since the energy produced every day is linked with the orientation (azimuth and slope), we will make recommendations. The modules can be attached to the roof, places on an existing or new carport or installed on the ground with specific mounting structure. In East Africa, while being close to the equator, we recommend a slight slope to capture more sun.

How does it works when there is no grid?

For a new project or an existing one, we invite our off the grid client to invest in an extra battery capacity in order to be more comfortable during cloudy days. We offer to all our customers an access to our remote monitoring platform in order to control anytime the state of energy of the lithium battery and eventually adapt their consumption.

How long a lithium battery last compared to lead acid?

Lead acid battery (similar conception as a car battery) will last between 2 to 4 years while the usable capacity is only 50%. Our lithium batteries will cost you 0-30% more than conventional batteries but for a lifespan of more than 12 years and will 90% of usable capacity.
